So you want to learn SEO on your own? Look no further, take a seat, relax, and prepare to learn (I guarantee it will be enjoyable). Your being here tells me a few things, but the most important is that you understand that learning SEO is critical for the growth of your company and website in today’s connected world. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as you think. Before we begin, you should understand two concepts: what SEO is and why it is vital.
What is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the technique of upgrading and advertising a website in order to enhance the number of visitors from search engines. Essentially, it is a matter of ranking better in search engine results for terms connected to your website. How many people, after all, click on a link on the fourth page of a Google search?
The various factors that influence SEO range from the text on your page and how other websites link to you on the internet to simply designing your website in a way that search engines understand.
Why is SEO important?
Many people use the big search engines – Google, Bing, and Yahoo – to find out what they are looking for. Organic traffic hits are typically from users who have never heard of your company before. These search engines make it possible for your website to reach new audiences. If your website is the destination, then search engines are the highways that will transport visitors there. To put it another way, they provide new, targeted traffic. For example, if you sell shoes on your website, Google will send you people who are specifically looking to buy shoes. So, if you can get your site to the first page of Google, you will have access to a plethora of chances. Do you want your website to be credible and relevant? Yes? That is why SEO is so crucial.
Isn’t it obvious? So, let’s get started. Here are the six steps to teaching yourself SEO:
STEP 1 – Find a resource for beginners
I recommend starting with the Growth Marketing Pros’ SEO strategy and investing in a keyword research tool like GrowthBar. “The Beginner’s Guide To SEO” is the greatest place to start if you want to learn about SEO for a longer period of time.
MOZ’s Pros really lay it down in the simplest, most pleasant way possible. (They don’t pay me for this, I swear.) Perhaps they should, hmm). Prepare to thank them right now since it’s also entirely free. Other noteworthy resources include:
- Bruce Clay’s “Search Engine Optimization”
- Google’s “Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide”
STEP 2 – Practice!
Planes fascinate me. I enjoy observing them and studying about them, and I have the theory of flying one in my pinky finger. But if I’m in the cockpit, we’re going down fast. The theory is important, but putting what you’ve learned into practice is much more important. The best method to practice is to create a blog on your own website. You don’t have one yet? It is never too late to begin. WordPress is an excellent resource. Setting up your own domain will allow you to see the impact of each SEO method you employ in real-time.
STEP 3- Find a Mentor
My friend once said, after a long thought, near the end of a deep conversation, “Things take time.” Shakespearean gold words, indeed. Finding a mentor may take some time, but it is one of the most important steps. Remember that somewhere in the world, there will always be someone smarter than you. So, why not take a cue from that individual? How do you track down that person? Networking entails asking around, talking to friends, searching on LinkedIn, attending SEO networking events, and so on. Be inventive, but remember to locate a mentor. A little motivation never hurts, so consider this: “A mentor is someone who recognizes more skill and ability within you than you see in yourself and helps bring it out.”
STEP 4 – Join an SEO Group
This is one of the best bits of advice I’ve ever heard: “If you want to be a gardener, hang out with gardeners.” Hang out with race car drivers if you want to be one. If you want to be someone in the future, hang out with the individuals that inspire you.” Joining a local SEO organization will help you become an SEO specialist. Why don’t you give it a shot: Meetups for SEO
If you can’t find anything in your neighborhood, take Step 3’s advice and go back to networking. Again, ask your friends, check the online, or take the initiative and organize your own meetup.
STEP 5 – Know what’s going on in the SEO world
The world of SEO is constantly changing, so stay up to date. One of the most important things to remember here is to follow SEO experts on Twitter. Rand Fishkin, the founder of Moz, is only one example. Join the Twitter game to get the most out of your SEO experience, obtain the most recent updates, and to learn as quickly as those new changes arrive. But don’t stop there. If you enjoy reading, consider subscribing to any of the blogs listed below. If you’re looking for a place to start, we think this is a wonderful place to start.

- Search Engine Land is an abbreviation for Search Engine Land

STEP 6 – Rinse & Repeat
Following each step carefully and perseverance will get you to the finish line in no time. Learn, Do, and Repetition Don’t give up and remember that every journey to greatness begins with a single step. When you feel you’ve mastered the fundamentals, move on to the finer points: meta descriptions, alt tags, and Google Search Console.
