How to Create a 2023 SEO Strategy

How could you not be using e-commerce today if you are a seller who sells your items online? It’s time to review your search engine optimization approach again. To increase customer traffic to your website, you may need to adjust your SEO technique.

You will be able to boost your search engine rankings if you have a better understanding of SEO. There are software solutions that can provide data and alerts about your website’s overall health and success.

Using SEO tools can help you find areas of opportunity as well as flaws or issues that are preventing you from ranking higher in search engine results pages, or SERPs.

When Internet visitors visit your website, Google presents the results of their search queries in this format. Organic search results, paid Google Ads results, Knowledge Graphs, highlighted snippets, and video results are all part of the SERPs. Some old marketing strategies are becoming obsolete as internet purchasing continues to grow in popularity. However, the success of your SEO ranking is still an important aspect of any marketing plan.

SEO for Marketing

Search engine optimization is one of the most cost-effective marketing methods you can implement. It becomes a magnet to attract clients actively looking for your products and services online.

SEO is more crucial than ever. More people are leaning on the Internet for items and services they may have previously shopped for offline pre-pandemic, according to Steve Wiideman, president and CEO of Wiideman Consulting Group.

“Restaurants, in particular, have survived either by working with delivery services such as Doordash, Postmates, Uber Eats, Grubhub, or by constructing keyword-rich pages on their websites. Keywords address off-premises queries clients use to find delivery, takeout, carside, curbside, or outdoor dining near them.

A case in point is Applebee’s, which had a 37 percent boost in organic visits in 2020 compared 2019 with over 167 percent lift in online orders. Even with visits from Google Maps declining by 23 percent due to fewer customers seeking directions, online orders from Maps and “3-Pack” map listings in organic results were up by over 27 percent, he said.

“Customers have modified their purchase habits, some indefinitely. These new online ordering clients have discovered the comfort of ordering online and will likely continue the new routine even after the pandemic comes to an end,” said Wiideman.

Steve Wiideman the elements of how to construct an SEO plan for 2021. He is an SEO expert who has worked with brands that include Applebee’s, Public Storage, IHOP, Skechers, Blake Pizza, Technicolor, Bosley, Belkin, Linksys,, FIDM, Essentia Health, and Grand Seiko.

Wiideman established and teaches the Website Optimization and Strategic Search Engine Marketing online course for California State University Fullerton and the SEO Tools and Analytics course at University of California San Diego. He is an adjunct lecturer at the University of California San Diego, California State University Fullerton, and Fullerton College — and recently was commissioned to create a textbook for a prominent online learning programme for universities.

Is SEO’s impact more critical for commerce in general or e-commerce? Why?

For various reasons, e-commerce is undoubtedly the most important marketing strategy for firms today. When a transaction can be linked to a specific media, such as search, social, email, referral, or other marketing, it’s much easier to track ROI on marketing efforts.

Second, upon completing a purchase, many consumers keep their information or create an account, allowing advertisers to use retargeting methods, newsletters, and loyalty programmes, all of which minimise the cost of more expensive advertising mediums like bidding on keywords in the Google Search Network.

What does successful SEO look like?

Simple key performance indicators, or KPIs, are used to assess SEO success. Many advertisers consider the following to be the most important:

a. YoY and MoM growth in revenue sourced from organic

b. YoY and MoM growth in revenue from maps and 3-Pack listings

Other KPIs that the various members of the SEO team may be tracking include:

a. Percentage improvement in technical site issues

b. Percentage improvement in mobile page speeds/load times

c. Average keyword position of keywords tracked and monitored (often segmented by category or business objectives)

d. Number of new inbound links earned through upper funnel/informational content (such as FAQ’s)

Over the course of a year, a successful campaign will have met and exceeded its initial KPI goals.

How can companies build an effective SEO strategy for 2021?

Companies may develop a successful SEO strategy by devoting one to three months to research and planning, with the following deliverables from a skilled strategist:

a. Technical SEO Audit

b. Competitive “Baseline” Report

c. Link Audit and Strategy

d. Extensive Keyword Research (existing data and competitive insights)

e. Website Taxonomy and Information Architecture Plan (based on keyword research)

f. Local and/or E-commerce SEO Strategy

The research’s action items are organised into a project management system such as, Basecamp, Jira, or (our favourite) Smartsheets once it’s finished. To establish responsibility, tasks are assigned, prioritised, and due dates are added.

How has the COVID-19 global pandemic affected what and how people search the Internet?

The employment of the terms “near me” and “online” has seen the most change in how people behave in search engines. With fewer people coming out to shop, online shopping has never been more vital. Businesses are increasing visit-to-sale (conversion) rates by designing mobile shopping experiences that need a visitor’s thumb throughout the encounter rather than a keyboard.

As previously said, boosting content by addressing keywords helps keep the kitchen lights on in the restaurant industry.

How can online merchants avoid SEO scams?

Today’s SEO is beginning to become more transparent. Spam calls promising to “rank you #1 on Google” are not as common among business owners. Instead, as part of their survival plan, they are staying up late to educate themselves.

This is why we established our free SEO Masterclass: to provide business owners with the knowledge and skills they need to handle SEO in-house and avoid being taken advantage of by cunning cold-callers.
