Working online as a freelance SEO specialist for nearly 5 years has greatly enriched my experience. I devise my own methods of improvising in order to deliver on my promises to my clientele. And, of course, new clients arrive; some have no idea what to do, what to anticipate from what we do, and some make a lot of assumptions for one week.
With this, I’d like to share with everyone the SEO process that I’ve been able to develop over the years. These SEO process stages were based on my instruction 5 years ago, and it all started then. Furthermore, with the assistance of other SEO gurus and their blogs, I simply added some steps that I’ve been performing for years, actions that have proven to be helpful for me and my clients.
My 8 SEO Process Steps
SEO Specialist, explains the 8 steps in the SEO process.
1 to 3 hours in length
There are numerous tools available to assist you in examining the website that you wish to optimize. With these tools, you’ll be able to determine which portions of the website need to be improved, as well as which features should be included to help not only rank the website but also convert traffic into more sales.
Duration: 1 to 3 hours
It is critical to understand the type of business you will be selling online. There are numerous businesses that we can market online, ranging from services to items. There are numerous clients looking for it online, and all you have to do is get out there and market it.
Business Competition and Analysis
Duration: 1-3 Days
Knowing what the customer’s business is all about will allow you to determine what keywords to target, what market to target, and how to deliver the data to the client. Hopefully, the statistics and numbers of potential consumers and sales that they can have online will persuade the client that SEO is not an extra cost, but rather an investment in their business’s future.
As for how long this will take, it may take a long time because there are scenarios in which the SEO specialist is unfamiliar with the business. For example, there are firms that are unfamiliar to me but are common in the United States.
With the client’s assistance, this may be greatly accelerated by providing information about their company’s products and services, why they chose this firm, and how they got started, as well as the top competitors in their opinion.
Duration: 3-5 Days
Now that you know what the business is all about and what products or services you can help them market online, you can use the terms they use and feed it into search engines like Google to identify more relevant terms to target.
Use Google Keyword Planner to research the competition and typical search volume in your chosen market. Choose the best keywords to target, present this list to the customer, and if they agree, choose the keywords to prioritize.
According to my experience, not all clients can decide the keywords they want to rank for. Sometimes I even try to persuade my clients not to go for a keyword that will not help them build their online reputation and/or make sales; sometimes clients have made-up words and there is no one looking or searching for it online – I don’t usually try to persuade my clients not to, because some just want to make that word their brand.
Yes, it may take a week or more to come up with the final keywords to target. Depending on how the client responds, how you present it, how you assist them in making a faster decision, and so on.
Duration: 3-7 Days
Now, some clients prefer to skip this stage and instead have me do the offshore optimization. It’s either that they’re too excited or that they don’t want me to have access to their website.
I appreciate the trust difficulties here, however, it is critical that your website is improved and touched by an SEO specialist because there are things that the SEO specialist knows that the web developer does not. The SEO specialist is usually more up-to-date and knowledgeable about optimizing the website, thus it is critical that your website is optimized.
However, if you wish to skip this step, you should read my blog post “Meta Tags – Is it Still Important?” It was when I just asked for the ability to at least touch the meta tags, nothing else. That’s all. It’s just meta tags. That’s because they don’t want anything, not even a single letter, changed on their website, and I basically “begged” them to let me at least modify the meta tags, which aren’t viewed by their visitors.
In website optimization, also known as onsite optimization, you do not simply alter the meta tags; we also need to examine and make changes to the website’s structure if possible. Not only to make it easier for your visitors to navigate the site but also for search engines to identify the pages that will help us rank the site.
We will also execute or make the appropriate changes based on our website analysis. Because website analysis allows us to determine what areas need to be altered, what is lacking, and how to improve the website, we will all make these adjustments if possible – because, once again, some clients do not want everything changed. In addition, we’ll implement the keywords we’ve chosen to optimize the website for, optimizing the pages we’ve chosen for those keywords as the keyword’s landing page.
Depending on how the website is constructed, how many pages must be optimized, and so on. On average, I can complete this in three days, but for some clients, it seemed like an eternity.
Search Engine Submission
Duration: 5 minutes
It’s as simple as telling search engines, “Hey, I made some modifications on our website, I’ve made it more search engine friendly, maybe you want to check it out?”
There are various resources available online to assist you with this.
Link Building / Offsite Optimization
Duration: Monthly campaign
This is the month-to-month promotion. It is the process of creating content, finding excellent sites, finding relevant sites to promote your website, and building links to your website.
Can you generate 1,000 links every month? Please do not do so. Please keep in mind that SEO is organic; it should be natural, and search engines such as Google can identify this. If they find something “unnatural” about your website, they may penalize it or even ban it. Be cautious about how many links you build each month and the types of links you build; there are ethical ways to accomplish this, and it is better to do it in an ethical manner to protect the future of your website.
Of course, when performing offsite optimization, you must keep an eye on what is happening with the website. How your SEO affects the website, traffic, visits, and conversions. By monitoring what’s going on with your website, you’ll be able to know and compare progress, as well as see or demonstrate how SEO is doing on your website.
You’d be able to assess everything and see if SEO is helping with the data you’d acquired for monitoring. However, please keep in mind that SEO is not a quick fix, it is not a magic wand, and it does not take a few weeks for you to be ranked first on Google every time someone searches for your products or services.
If “TRUST IS EARNED,” then “RANKING IS EARNED” in SEO. It is not necessary to trust someone straight immediately, as in TRUST AT FIRST SIGHT; rather, it is necessary to get to know the person before you can truly claim that you trust them.
The same is true for search engines; why would Google rank a website as #1 or #10? Google understands that they have the stuff that Googlers (Google Users) are looking for because Google trusts them. So, optimize the website, send a signal to search engines, market it offsite, and make search engines recognize and remember that you should be at the top of their list each month.
I hope the 8 SEO process steps that I’ve shared with you can help you understand how SEO works on my end. Some SEOs may have a different process, but the fundamentals are and should be there. I also hope that this post has given you the impression that SEO requires a lot of work, that the first month is critical for the success of the subsequent months and years, and that it works in two ways; your SEO service provider cannot do this alone. The client’s assistance is also extremely valuable.
